Change Healthcare announced a breach of HIPAA privacy and is reaching out to individuals whose personal information may have been compromised. Although this incident does not involve Delta Dental of New Jersey or Connecticut, Change Healthcare is a vendor we used and we are providing this information to help our members who might be affected.
Delta Dental of New Jersey will begin to administer all aspects of its small group (2-50 lives) business this fall. Here’s what you need to know about the transition from Allied Administrators.
Group and Member ID
Why are member ID numbers changing?
Your Delta Dental ID number is changing to help you keep your identity more secure. You will no longer be required to use your Social Security number as your member ID. Unique Delta Dental ID numbers will now be assigned, and are not connected to your Social Security number. This helps you safeguard your Social Security number. (However, you may continue to use your Social Security number if you so choose.) You can access your new Delta Dental ID number when you sign in to MySmile, your Delta Dental benefits site, starting October 12. When you (or your dependents) see the dentist, you will have the option of providing any one of the following to your provider:
Why has my group number changed?
Until recently a third-party administrator, or TPA, handled certain functions of managing your employer’s plan, and the TPA issued your group number. We recently moved the services performed by the TPA in-house. Your group number changed as we migrated your group from the TPA to our internal systems. You can access your new group number when you sign in to MySmile, your all-access pass to your Delta Dental benefits, starting October 12.
How do I get information about my benefits?
As before, you can sign in to MySmile, the Delta Dental member site. If you don’t yet have a MySmile account, please register.
How do I get my new member ID and group number?
You can download an ID card with your new member ID and group number by signing in to your MySmile account starting October 12. (Note that ID cards are not required when you visit the dentist.)
Do I need my new member ID number when I go to the dentist? Can I still use my Social Security number?
You can use your name and date of birth when you visit the dentist. You can also use your new ID number or your Social Security number if you wish.
