Pregnancy changes everything. That’s why moms-to-be need enhanced dental benefits during this time. Delta Dental of New Jersey offers this coverage option because we believe it helps keep expectant moms and their babies healthier through preventive oral care.
Hormonal changes during pregnancy put women at higher risk for serious, painful conditions such as tooth decay, canker sores, and gum disease. Gum disease that progresses can increase the risk for delivering a low-birth weight or pre-term baby.1 These conditions can mean a lifetime of health problems for the child and increased financial strain and absenteeism for the mother. It’s important to provide regular—and sometimes even extra—dental care during pregnancy.
While other carriers may limit their pregnancy benefit to an additional cleaning, we offer a choice. Delta Dental’s enhanced pregnancy benefit offers expectant mothers an additional dental exam in the calendar year they are pregnant. Depending on their oral health needs, members can receive:

- an additional cleaning, or
- an additional periodontal scaling or root planing per quadrant.
